How Will the Digital TV Transition on February 17, 2009 IMPACT YOU?

If you get your TV service from North Central, you are ready to receive Digital TV in February. If your television already has a digital tuner, you will likely continue to receive TV programming as usual after the transition. However, you should make sure that every TV in your house that is not connected to cable, satellite or other pay TV service either has a digital tuner or has a converter box connected to it. To determine if your television has a digital tuner, either check your owner’s manual, look up information about your TV set on the manufacturer’s website or look closely at your television set to find an input connection labeled “digital input” or “ATSC.”

If you receive broadcasts using an antenna, such as “rabbit ears” or a rooftop antenna and your television does not have a built-in digital tuner, you need a TV converter box to receive television after February 17, 2009. You can obtain up to two coupons, each worth $40, that can be applied toward the cost of eligible converter boxes. To apply for a coupon go to: https://www.dtv2009.gov/ApplyCoupon.aspx

Talking to Joyce Gann Who’s Everything NCTC!

This is a no hype story of how one great Tennessee Lady has found technology, made it work for her to do literally amazing things! She has inspired us to realize that when you can get all your communications from one company you know will care about you, that life is easier.

“I do have everything from North Central — that’s my phone, long distance, Internet and TV. I’ve had Comcast and satellite before, but when North Central came out with the new TV, I wanted it, “ she said.

The Internet has become a real friend. When her grandson, Derek, was in Iraq (he has had two successful tours), she stayed in touch with a view cam connected to her Internet. “I kept my computer volume turned up and could hear him sign on in the early mornings. I loved seeing him right on the computer screen! We’d talk about his day. When he told me he lost his good friend and that there were others too, I knew the ability to share what was happening in his life was priceless,” said Mrs. Gann. She still gets some tears in her eyes when she realizes that it was the Internet that helped her get through such an extreme absence.

About TV, well Joyce loves to cook and turn up the volume on CMT! And a cook she is. There’s always some left over to share with friends and neighbors. Her famous fried pie recipe and technique was shared on our NCTC website. “My mother taught me the art of fried pies. I keep making them, and they keep me going,” she tells us.

She likes the birthday cards on the local channel and the local community programs. ”I like keeping it local,” says Gann. “Westmoreland is home! It’s a place that takes roots.”
