Working With Law Enforcement
NCSS’ Carolyn Smith and Heather Kempf recently worked with Brian Carter and others at the Macon County Sheriff’s Department to catch a convicted criminal who had escaped from prison. Here are her tips after that amazing personal experience:
• Talk to us about a monitored security system.
• Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
• Watch out for your neighbros and friends. Call them if you suspect something odd.
• Lock your doors and your cars.
• Don’t let a stranger in your home.

The Polston’s Choose NCTC TV
Matt and Meredith Polston came back to NCTC TV after a short time with DirecTV. They tell us why: “We missed not have a local channel and on-screen Caller ID. But mostly, it’s about being local,” says Meredith. Having a local business themselves, B.D. Polston and Son’s Builder Supply in Lafayette, they recognize that the local economy is depending on local people to build up the community and support it.
Check out the Polston’s favorites programs on NCTC TV:
Matt & Meredith: Modern Family, Parenthood, Criminal Minds, Grey’s Anatomy, Vampire Diaries, Dexter
Hayes: Power Rangers and Beyblade
Lucye Clair: Little Einsteins and Dora the Explorer

Steve Walker, Macon County Agriculture Extension Agent, Helps You Get Ready To Plant Now
Steve’s top things to consider before planting this spring:
• Think about a vegetable garden concept with two planting seasons.
• Select your site carefully. Look for soil that is deep, fertile, well-drained and medium textured with lots of sunlight. These soils are usually dark in color.
• Have a soil test done to determine how much lime and fertilizer to apply to your garden.
• Click here for a copy of SP 291-0 (Guide to Spring-Planted, Cool-Season Vegetables), SP 291-P (Guide to Warm Season Vegetables).
• Consider making a scale drawing of your garden.
• E-mail or call the Macon County Extension Office with questions: utextension@utk.edu or 666-3341.
