Building the Broadband Highway To Rural America

Some people think we will never get a highway through our region.  There just isn’t enough traffic to and from other cities and states to warrant it, some believe.  Contrary to popular belief, NCTC knows that the values and respect in Rural America deserve more than opinion – they deserve a connection to the world, a place to stand out and stand up.  Broadband Internet is an information highway – and NCTC said it was time for this ‘highway’ to get built!

Every building project starts with the first step:  Our first step to deliver a future broadband highway was to apply for funds under American Reinvestment & Recovery Act.  After a concerted effort and a dedicated team working nearly 2 months, with commitments and encouragement from public, private, and political people alike – our joint efforts resulted in an award of $50 million dollars as part of the Broadband Infrastructure Investment Program!

The work is just beginning – but the rewards will be wonderful, both today and tomorrow.  Imagine a future where we connect with others every day for medicine, education, and business – live in the workplace, classroom, or clinic – directly through a fiber optic connection that will support not just the needs we have now, but for the future as well.

The broadband infrastructure we build will support:

Telemedicine (to allow doctors and specialists to see patients, review scans and x-rays, and diagnose – without having to drive out of county!)

IP video (allowing residential and business customers to enjoy video through their broadband connection, with information and channels dedicated to the local needs and interests)

Telecommunications (Voice, Data, and Conferencing services to schools and colleges – as well as our current and future customers!)
